The collections not on display

While the Nationalmuseum building is currently closed for renovation, the collections and activities continue in Sweden and around the world.

Nationalmuseum is Sweden’s premier museum of art and design. The museum building in Stockholm is currently under renovation and is scheduled to open again in 2018. In the meantime, the museum will continue its activities through temporary exhibitions at Nationalmuseum Design at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm as well as through collaborations both in Sweden and abroad.

Nationalmuseum Design is the museum’s temporary arena for form and design, presenting the visitors with contemporary and varied exhibitions within the field of design and arts and craft.

Limited space

Since space at our temporary venue is limited, we are unable to show the rest of the collections there. Instead, a small selection of works will go on tour during the renovation period and are to be shown at museums and galleries around Sweden and worldwide.

Renovated museum houses more

Nationalmuseum's collection contains about 700,000 objects. Before the closure a small selection of them was shown in the museum building on Blasieholmen.

We look forward to presenting even more works for many more visitors in a beautiful, eco-friendly, functional and newly renovated museum in 2018.
