Work in progress:
The Museum in a New Light

How will the experience of art be affected if we move around it instead of looking at it from the front? Which role does the light play? Will there be a greater experience if several art forms play together? Find out for yourself in this exhibition.

The exhibition is closing at 5 pm every day.

Nationalmuseum first opened its doors in 1866. The building has never been renovated.. The National Property Board and Nationalmuseum have developed a proposal for how to preserve this valuable piece of architectural and cultural heritage and bring it up to modern standards. In the  vision of a renovated Nationalmuseum, light streams into the building. The original aesthetics, colours and decorative features are highlighted and used to create a diverse range of artistic experiences – a museum in a new light.

Work in Progress is a project to study how Nationalmuseum’s collections can best be displayed in a renovated building. To begin with, we are showing works from the sculpture collection on the theme of light and movement. We shall be changing and developing the exhibition over time.
