Mer om Mark Ian Jones föreläsning

Mark Ian Jones beskriver sig själv och sitt ämne.

On the Periphery. Vicke Lindstrand, artist, entrepreneur and innovator.

The Swedish glass artist Vicke Lindstrand (1904 - 1983) should be a name well known to many Swedes, and one would expect him to be well documented in the history of Swedish and Scandinavian design. Most of what is written about Lindstrand is framed within the lauded Artist in Industry model that is Orrefors Glasbruk where Lindstrand worked alongside Simon Gate and Edward Hald between 1928 and 1940. The fact that Lindstrand had a significant career after Orrefors has at times been forgotten and at other times blatantly dismissed.

The lecture will examine Lindstrand’s second career as a glass artist at Kosta Glasbruk between 1950 and 1973 in the context of the promotion of Swedish and Scandinavian Design and how this may have contributed to the perceived critical value of his post 1950 work.

Mark Ian Jones is a practicing chartered architect and design educator with twenty-eight years professional experience. As an academic, he has been lecturing since 1990 at the University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts, the University of Technology Sydney, and Sydney Institute of Technology in the areas of architecture, environments and interior design at undergraduate level, and design history at undergraduate and post-graduate level. Since 2005 he has been engaged in PhD research into 1950s Swedish design, presenting and publishing academic papers internationally. In 2007 he was the recipient of an Estrid Ericsons Stiftelse Grant for his research and is currently a Guest Researcher at the Department of Art History, Uppsala University, Sweden under a Swedish Institute Guest Scholarship.
