I Don't See Color!
For the third chapter of The Body as Our First Home, Third Culture Kids explore how first impressions shape how we are seen. Before we have the right words, we are often read through our skin. And for many of us, that is where code-switching begins – small shifts in how we speak, move, and present ourselves – simply to be understood or blend in.
The phrase “I Don’t See Color!” is often offered with kindness, yet it can land as not seeing what someone has lived through. For those moving through the world in black or brown bodies, everyday realities risk disappearing behind the promise of neutrality.
Liban i is a Swedish-Somali artist based in Stockholm. He works across identity and communication, using precision and humour to disarm and linger. This evening you can experience one of his works, a multi-channel music video installment, which brings image, sound, and movement into dialogue, tracing how personal experience and social structures meet on the body. The work redirects attention to this fragile space, where perception arrives before understanding.
In conversation with Nationalmuseum’s exhibition Badin – Beyond Surface and Mask, the work reflects on what it means to be read before being understood, and what is lost when lived experience is overlooked.

About Third Culture Kids
Third Culture Kids (TCK) is a Swedish brand founded in 2022 with the goal of redefining what “home” can feel like. The name refers to people who have grown up at the intersection of multiple cultures — an identity formed beyond both their parents’ origins and the surrounding society.
Third Culture Kids exists to bring people together, deepen understanding, and strengthen its role as a voice for stories, perspectives, and hope for the future. They design clothes and objects and create experiences in spaces inspired by growing up between cultures.
