To the Sea!
This autumn's major exhibition, To the Sea! The beach as borderland and summer dream, explores how bathing and coastal tourism have been depicted in art, from around 1870 to the mid-20th century. See more than 200 works of art by artists including Claude Monet, Anders Zorn, Peder Severin Krøyer, Sigrid Hjertén, Georgia O’Keeffe, Robert Capa, and many, many more.
Photography and filming in progress!
To share all the fun things happening at the museum, we photograph and film many of our events, including the Drawing Festival. The material may be used in Nationalmuseum’s communication channels, marketing, and social media. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about this.
For more information about how we process personal data, please read our Personal data collection and processing policy. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed, please let the photographer on site know.

Shorelines and horizons: a slow-looking tour
Follow the lines through To the Sea! – from the flat expanse of the horizon to the rhythm and movement of the waves. In works by artists including Claude Monet, Edvard Munch and Sigrid Hjertén, we’ll explore how the sea’s light, movement and changing qualities have captured the artists’ gaze. Discover how reflections break up forms, and how sea, sky and land meet in lines and planes. A tour about slowing down to look – and about how a few simple strokes can contain depth, movement and infinity.
