This Thursday evening, we will be joined by Dr. Guy Dammann, researcher in the philosophy of music and aesthetics at Uppsala University. His work examines the role of art criticism in the shaping of aesthetic understanding and aesthetic appreciation: Can anything be beautiful and is beauty important?
The conversation will be led by one of Nationalmuseum’s art educators together with Guy Dammann. Taking works from the museum’s collections as our starting point, we will use questions and exercises that open up for reflection and discussion.

About Look Closer with Philosophers!
Look Closer with Philosophers! is a conversation-based programme in which participants explore art, craft and design together. During autumn 2026, Nationalmuseum is collaborating with philosophers from Uppsala University. Taking the museum’s collections as our starting point, we will explore different aesthetic and philosophical questions that art can raise. No prior knowledge is needed – curiosity is enough. The conversation is led by an art educator and an invited philosopher.
