The museum is closed, but we're still open!

The museum building in Stockholm is closed for renovation and scheduled to open again in 2018. In the meantime you will find us at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern where we show temporary exhibitions within the field of design and arts and craft.

In early 2013 the Nationalmuseum building on Blasieholmen was closed for some much needed renovation, and all the art was moved out. Since then, the museum has been fully active in other locations with touring exhibitions, different collaborations and in temporary exhibition venues in Stockholm.

Visit us in Stockholm

The temporary exhibition venue in central Stockholm is located at Nationalmuseum Design in Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. Some of the exhibitions shown at this location are partly or completely based on objects from the museum collections, while others are mainly made up of objects on loan from external contributors.

The temporary exhibition venue at Konstakademien, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, was closed on 4 September, 2016.

Nationalmuseum Design

While the museum building is being renovated, Nationalmuseum Design at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern is our arena for form and design, presenting our visitors with contemporary and varied exhibitions within the field of design and applied arts. In our lounge you can visit pop-up exhibitions in the Project Container, browse the design shop, participate in various design-related events, or just put your feet up for a while.

You will find information about opening hours and admission here.

LIMITED SPACE

Since space at our temporary location at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern is limited as compared to the museum building, we are unable to show the rest of the collections there. Instead, a small selection of works will go on tour during the renovation period and are to be shown at museums and galleries around Sweden and worldwide.

RENOVATED MUSEUM HOUSES MORE

Nationalmuseum's collection contains about 700,000 objects. Before the closure, only a selection of these was able to be shown in the museum building on Blasieholmen.

We look forward to presenting even more works for many more visitors in a beautiful, eco-friendly, functional and newly renovated museum in 2018.
