There are many different ways to support the museum. The most common is to provide financial support for an exhibition, an art acquisition, or one of our public programs.
You can support the museum over time, or make a one-time donation for a specific purpose. We are deeply grateful for all contributions, and we express our thanks in different ways depending on whether or not you wish to remain anonymous. If you wish, we offer you different ways to follow how your donation makes a difference.
A donation from a private individual, foundation, or company is accounted for separately from government funding, which means that your gift will not be mixed with these funds. Your contribution can therefore be saved over several years and remains independent of government control or budgets.
Examples of how we acknowledge and thank you for your donation
- For donations of SEK 5 million or more, we offer the opportunity to have your name engraved on the stone plaques in the museum’s foyer.
- If you contribute to a temporary exhibition, we will, if you wish, acknowledge your support by including your name in the exhibition catalogue and on signage in the exhibition. You will also be invited to our openings and special events related to the exhibition.
- If you support a smaller project within, for example, research, conservation, or education, we are happy to offer you a private tour of the museum or the opportunity to follow the project you are supporting behind the scenes.
- If you contribute funds for the acquisition of an artwork, or donate an object yourself, your name will be linked to the object in our records and collections database—unless you choose to remain anonymous. Your name will therefore always be associated with that object as your gift to the museum.
Practical information
In Sweden, donations to cultural institutions are not tax-deductible, and by legal definition, a donation must not come with a counter-obligation. However, we believe in full transparency and value the opportunity to show our donors how their contributions are used.
