The American Friends of the Nationalmuseum of Sweden was established in 2017 to support the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm from the US.
The first major initiative is to support an exhibition of an eclectic collection of modern and contemporary American crafts, curated by Helen Drutt English. The exhibition, entitled “Beauty and the Unexpected – Modern and Contemporary American Crafts,” opened in March 2023. Three years after the exhibition, the items will be donated to the permanent collection of the Nationalmuseum.
The American Friends wish to support the Nationalmuseum in the future as well, providing the opportunity for collectors and families to donate objects and artworks of value and interest to the museum. The American Friends also plan to support the museum’s various research programs and exhibitions that are particularly relevant to Swedish-American relations.
The goal is to cover the costs of a catalogue presenting all 83 objects from the collection. The American Friends aim to fundraise at least USD 35,000 for the catalogue, and at least USD 75,000 to cover other expenses related to the exhibition (transport, insurance etc.).
All donations will be 100% tax deductible and the donors will be listed in the catalogue in categories of the general size of the gift.
